- Crystal Palace’s Jaydee Canvot has been superb
- Barcelona and PSG eye French defender
- Eagles must not sell
Jaydee Canvot might have Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain watching his every move in Crystal Palace’s UEFA Conference League final tonight. The French defender is certain to start the game at Red Bull Arena in Leipzig against Rayo Vallecano.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed a sensational debut season with Palace since arriving from Toulouse last summer. The club paid around £23m to bring him to Selhurst Park and he’s been a standout performer.
Canvot has earned a starting berth in Oliver Glasner’s team following Marc Guehi’s move to Manchester City in January. Tonight, he is set to make his 38th appearance of the season.
Barcelona and PSG eye Jaydee Canvot
Canvot’s inspired form has reportedly caught the eye of Barcelona and PSG. A report from L’Equipe claims that he is attracting interest from the two European giants, and the latter have been following him ever since he moved to South London.
It’s noted that their interest isn’t concrete yet and he has a contract which runs until 2029. It does feel like such reports are being released ahead of the Conference League final to pounce on Palace’s name being in the spotlight.
There were reports over the weekend that suggested Maxence Lacroix’s future lies away from Selhurst Park. The line was that a transfer had been “scheduled” and that the game against Arsenal on Sunday had been his last home appearance.
Canvot has now also been rumoured for a summer switch, with the teenage defender seemingly liked by two of Europe’s big guns. The hope is that a Glasner successor is able to call upon the France U21 international from next season onwards.
Not for sale
Palace cannot consider selling Canvot even if Barca or PSG come calling this summer. He is the future of the club and is only getting started at Selhurst Park.
While admiration of the French starlet is unavoidable, the Eagles should make clear he is not for sale. He could enter a new era with the Eagles as a Conference League winner.
Palace have been linked with several defenders in recent weeks, which has raised questions about their plans for the summer. But Canvot should not be heading for the exit door anytime soon.
Lacroix’s focus will be on helping his side win the Conference League tonight at Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. He has the chance to win his first European trophy and write his name in the club’s history books.
