Pierre Sage appointment sees Crystal Palace leapfrog Fulham and Leeds in race for Ligue 1 star

Crystal Palace announced the appointment of new manager Pierre Sage on Monday, and with that has come a plethora of transfer links from Ligue 1.

Most recently, a report from InsideFutbol has linked the South London club to the potential signing of Auxerre’s Lassine Sinayoko.

The 26-year-old Malian is a right winger and had a tremendous season despite Auxerre finishing just two places above the drop zone.

Those performances have earned growing interest in Sinayoko’s services, and he is tipped for a move away this Summer.

Does signing Sinayoko make sense?

The winger only has one year left on his current deal, as a host of Premier League clubs are lining up to bid for his services.

Fulham, Leeds and Everton are the other clubs involved, but none of them can offer Sinayoko European football.

The links seem to be focused more on the fact that Sage is French and may know Sinayoko from his time managing in Ligue 1, though there is no real proof of this.

Scout Report

Sinayoko is not only a strong frontman but he’s also extremely versatile. He can play across the forward line with confidence.

His athleticism and natural physique would suit the Premier League well. Last season he scored 12 goals and assisted four times, leading Auxerre to survival, avoiding the relegation play-offs by two points.

His long range shooting is strong and he favours cutting inside to strike from distance. Despite not scoring a mind blowing number of goals, Sinayoko’s expected goals match his tally almost perfectly.

At AFCON 2025, Sinayoko scored all three of Mali’s goals before their quarter final exit.

Manchester United reportedly approached Sinayoko to agree a pre contract with him, but were unsuccessful in doing so, which has opened the door for Palace to make a move.

If he does leave, Sinayoko will be ending a nine year stay with Auxerre, the winger only ever playing for Les Diplomats.

The links will continue to come now Palace’s new manager is in place.
