- Crystal Palace make offer for Barcelona’s Marc Casado
- Sergio Busquets hailed him
- Barca could sell
Crystal Palace have reportedly made an offer to Barcelona to sign Spanish midfielder Marc Casado. The Eagles are looking to build on their UEFA Conference League win and build a squad that can compete in the Europa League.
According to Managing Barca, Palace have submitted a €25m (£21.6m) bid for Casado and it would be some statement to bring him to Selhurst Park. It’s claimed that talks are now open and the decision rests with the Catalan giants.
Casado is a product of Barca’s illustrious La Masia academy, and he has been on the rise at Camp Nou. The report suggests the La Liga giants are prepared to do a deal, although they could look to negotiate a “favourable sell-on clause.”
Palace make Casado offer
Palace have been expected to focus much of their summer transfer business on strengthening the midfield. A new manager will be at the helm next season as the Eagles search for an Oliver Glasner successor.
Reports claim the club are set to hold talks with Lens’ Pierre Sage over the possibility of taking charge of the Premier League outfit. The French tactician will want a midfield that is strong enough to handle Europa League football along with domestic competition.
Daichi Kamada still looks to be headed for the exit door when his contract expires at the end of this month. The Japanese midfielder will need replacing and Casado fits the bill.
The 22-year-old hasn’t been a regular starter for Barca this season and he might view Palace as the perfect place to live up to his potential. He could link up with Spanish compatriot Yeremy Pino at Selhurst Park.
Busquets hailed ‘very good’ Casado
Casado isn’t quite at the level of Barca legend Sergio Busquets, who is one of the greatest holding midfielders to grace the game. But the Spaniard spoke highly of the player back in 2024, particularly highlighting his mentality and playing style.
Busquets said (via Sportskeeda):
“He surprised us a lot. We already knew he was very good because I knew him from training and from my last year at Barca. Casado is playing at a superlative, spectacular level, moving the team and also giving assists.”
Casado is an exciting midfield talent who blends technical ability with stamina. He’s a workhorse who can even put in a shift at right-back.
Potentially partnering him with Adam Wharton could go a long way in ensuring that Palace continue to challenge for trophies. He’d arrive with experience of winning major honours with Barca, including the La Liga title this season.
