- Crystal Palace fans on appointing Arne Slot
- Dutchman available after Liverpool sacking
- Reds set to move for Eagles’ top target
Many Crystal Palace supporters think the club should move for Arne Slot after Liverpool sacked the Dutch manager. The Reds announced on Saturday (May 30th) that Slot had parted ways.
Slot spent two seasons in charge at Anfield and guided the Merseyside giants to the Premier League title last year. He took over from Jurgen Klopp and looked to be an excellent successor when he became champion in his debut season.
Liverpool backed Slot with a £400m summer rebuild, which included breaking the British transfer window twice. His team stuttered despite this and finished the season fifth, surrendering their title in dissapointing fashion.
Palace hot for Slot?
Slot’s reign has ended with him overseeing 66 wins and 29 defeats in 113 games. He mostly dominated the English top flight during his first season at Anfield.
The former Feyenoord boss endured a dismal second campaign on Merseyside. This included 12 league defeats, including against relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Liverpool’s higher-ups have decided to part ways following an unsuccessful season. They are expected to appoint Andoni Iraola as Slot’s successor.
Iraola had been Palace’s top choice to succeed Glasner ahead of his Bournemouth exit. The Spaniard is said to have snubbed the Eagles despite their UEFA Conference League triumph.
Split opinion over Slot
Slot could be an ideal choice to replace Glasner if he wishes to continue managing in the Premier League. He’d be in charge of a club where there is less pressure and he has a strong resume of success.
The Palace job is an enticing one because of Europa League qualification and recent trophy success. The Conference League is the third of three won by the South London outfit in two years.
There is a divide in opinion amongst the Selhurst Park faithful regarding Slot. Some believe he’d be an excellent appointment while others wouldn’t want the Dutchman.
Palace Report asked their followers on X whether they’d take him.
One fan responded: “Yes, he’s won a premier league and did well with feyenoord. We wanted him before Liverpool got him.”
Another supporter replied: “Yes ofc, less pressure, no big egos and he’s a proven winner, I think it’s a better place than Liverpool for him.”
One added: “100% but it won’t happen.”
Others have made clear they’d oppose Slot’s appointment. One fan said: “No, if he can’t win with all their resources why would he succeed at Palace?”
Another added: “Managers who fail with top class players I don’t want anywhere near us because if you fail with top class players you’ll fail without top class players.”
One pointed out: “Nope. I have a theory that Dutch managers just don’t work in an English environment.”
Slot may well be in demand amid his availability and there are several vacancies around Europe. AC Milan are thought to be eyeing Glasner but they too might take an interest in the Dutch coach along with Bayer Leverkusen.
