- Palace linked with Matthis Abline
- Nantes’ relegation benefits potential buyers

Crystal Palace are reportedly targeting a move for FC Nantes forward Matthis Abline this Summer. The 23-year-old was heavily coveted last Summer, with notable interest from the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Paris FC.
Nante’s demands for a sale ultimately saw the Frenchman remain at the Beaujoire this season, but another window of interest is expected, with Palace reportedly amongst the sides keeping tabs on Abline’s availability.
According to GFFN, the price tag deterred any potential suitors last Summer, but after another strong season in Ligue Un, there are suggestions that a deal is there to be made.
Who is Matthis Abline
Abline is a French centre-forward who has played internationally for France’s Under-21 side. With the ability to play on either the left or right wing too, his versatility makes him an ideal buy.
A graduate from the talent factory that is Stade Rennais’ youth system, Abline had a succession of loan spells at Le Havre, Auxerre and Nantes before his permanent move to Nantes in the Summer before the 2024/25 season.
Across those spells, Abline played 85 times, scoring 16 goals and registering four assists.
Nantes pulled the trigger on a permanent signing for £8.3 million, and he has been a standout performer for the club since.
Despite Nantes’ relegation to Ligue Deux, Abline’s numbers have stood out this season. 8 goals and six assists was an improvement on his first season with the club, where he scored 11 and notched 2 assists.
Last Summer Nantes were demanding a fee in the region of €50 million, but considering their relegation to the second tier, their negotiating position is not one which favours them.
Scout Report

Abline is a dynamic, confident forward who always looks to take on his opponent. His close control is strong, and he uses his upper body strength well to manoeuvre beyond opponents.
He also possesses an excellent finishing ability, and does well to find the net from tight angles. His long-range shooting stands out, and his goal catalogue during his time at Nantes makes for some very enjoyable viewing.
Volleys, long-distance driving efforts and controlled finishes under pressure show all the signs of a top forward, and at 23, he still has time to develop further.
His first touch inside the box and under pressure also stands out. He has a slight nuance to his play which makes him unpredictable and evidently causes issues for defenders.
He has also shown a strong aerial threat, and despite standing at just 6”0, his jumping technique and powerful heading ability has seen him score multiple goals.
Whilst he has primarily been deployed as a centre forward, he also provides great threat from wide areas. Driving towards the goal line and cutting back tempting passes for teammates is clearly a key part of his game, and would suit Palace’s style too.
Of course, the new manager is yet to be decided but Abline has the feeling of a player who can mould his traits to suit a system.
