Benteke wants to remain at Palace

Crystal Palace will talk with striker Christian Benteke about his future with the club at the end of the season, report the Mail Online.

Benteke cost Palace £27 million in the summer of 2016 and had an excellent first season, scoring 15 goals in the league. This season he has struggled for form though, scoring only his third goal of the season in Saturday’s 5-0 victory against Leicester.

The former Aston Villa and Liverpool forward has two years remaining on his contract with the Eagles and wants to stay with the South London club:

I want to stay here. I’m going to speak to the chairman (Steve Parish) and the club about what they want to do with me. At the end of every season you have to speak, to see the plan for the next season.

The goal at the weekend came from the penalty spot after manager Roy Hodgson told usual penalty taker Luka Milivojevic to allow Benteke to end his drought with the game already 4-0 at that point.

Benteke was happy the club allowed him the chance to end his drought, saying:

The squad is all behind me because they know that it’s not the best time for me, and it’s the first time I’ve been through this hard time without scoring. They wanted to give me a big boost.

matchday.
