Player Ratings: Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

Roy Hodgson had been making a point in his press conferences recently that Crystal Palace needed to turn their draws into wins if they had any hope of escaping relegation this season.

Boasting a five-match unbeaten run going into last night’s game, including four draws, the Eagles were still rooted to the foot of the table but had narrowed the gap on the teams above.

Things didn’t go to plan for Palace as inside three minutes they were already 1-0 down to Watford when Daryl Janmaat gave the visitors the lead and Hodgson’s men yet again had to fight back from behind.

Things looked bleak until Tom Cleverley was sent off for Watford which gave the Eagles a renewed sense of belief and substitutes Bakary Sako and James McArthur scored late goals to hand Palace only their third win of the season which elevated them out of the relegation zone for the time being.
