Palace announce 2016/17 home and away kits

The new home and away kits for the 2016/17 season have been revealed at the club’s awards night where Wilfried Zaha was deservedly crowned as the best Crystal Palace player of the year.

The changes in the home kit can be perceived right away. Instead of having four stripes like the current kit does, the new home jersey will show a single thicker stripe. Larger stripes have been already used before when the club successfully promoted in season 2012/2013.

As the official report puts it “The single central stripe will become many when the players line up in a row, evoking a spirit of togetherness and it symbolizes the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.”

This could be a new vision of what the club is seeking as a whole and a more united and less individualistic approach for the players directed by Alan Pardew.

Many variations of the red and blue stripes have taken place before in Palace history, since they were first introduced by the legendary Malcolm Allison back in 1973, who took inspiration from FC Barcelona shirt. During all that time, it’s been used by the most iconic Palace players who had definitely left a mark on the club like the immense Geoff Thomas. The red and blue stripes quickly became widely associated with Crystal Palace main insignia.

On the other hand, the away kit – as seen in the picture below – has much more noticeable differences with the one carried by the players this season. At first look, the most important change has been the main colour, which went from white to yellow, and also the crossed stripes instead of the straight ones.

The new kit will still be produced by the textile giant Macron and keep being sponsored by the Gibraltar-based company Mansion Group, owner of one of the most popular online casino brands, Casino.com.

It will be available for pre-sale starting on the 1st of June.

This is a definitely a new face for the team appearance, let us know what you think about it in the comments below.
