Pardew suffers striker injury blow ahead FA Cup clash

Alan Pardew has been dealt an injury blow ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup clash against Reading.

During an Under-21s game against Colchester on Tuesday evening, Marouane Chamakh limped off the pitch.

The Moroccan’s injury-plagued season appears to have continued further and he’s almost certainly a doubt for Friday’s visit to the Madejski Stadium.

Chamakh has made just one solitary start for the Eagles this season to date and perhaps understandably, given the lack of game time, is yet to open his goal account.

The knee injury – suffered just after 60 minutes – looks to have scuppered his chances of playing in a game that he had a good chance of securing some game time in.

Chamakh has far from been on the fringe for Palace in any case, what with Emmanuel Adebayor’s arrival at Selhurst, Connor Wickham’s resurgence and the likes of Jason Puncheon and Dwight Gayle seemingly ahead in the pecking order, but his injury-hit campaign hasn’t enabled him to compete for his spot.

The striker’s future at Palace remains unclear with his contract ending in June. He’s yet to sign any sort of new deal or extension and reports on him doing so are non-existent.

There’s also no news yet on how serious this latest setback is.

matchday.
